Check-In: The Boot Hotel, Nelson, New Zealand

The Boot Bed N’ Breakfast in New Zealand is most unusual. It looks like something that has dropped out of children’s fairytale. It is the brainchild of Steve Richards, who designed the two-story motel in the shape of a giant Disney-like boot. Outside is a grove of hazelnut trees nestling the inn. Inside there is an open fire for a romantic evening with wine. When you wake from your whimsical night, breakfast will be waiting at your door. Make all the footwear jokes you might, this hotel uses free-range eggs and offers fresh fruit from its orchard in your meal.

Destination Known: Tikehau, French Polynesia

 

Gist: Tahiti ushers in a myriad of thoughts of pristine beaches and beautiful islands. Well, Tikehau is one of the most gorgeous of such in the atoll. It’s a wide lagoon that is covered in coconut trees, making for shallow waters that turn into a natural aquarium. The whole atoll is surrounded by an almost continuous coral reef that makes for an interesting insight of the fauna of the location. Truly a sight to see!
