Mark Twain once wrote: “You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first, and then heaven.” And he was right, the island is a piece of paradise. Every corner is picturesque and every beach is heavenly. However, the place that really garnered these feelings in us was the Four Seasons Resort in Anahita – the perfect escape from it all on this unforgettable island in the tropics.

Situated around a beautiful lagoon in carefully preened Anahita, the resort is nothing less than mesmerising. On the East of Mauritius sits the resort, with 136 pools for each villa, tucked in front of Bambou mountain. The resort takes up 64 acres of lush land spotted with mangroves, little beaches and beautiful landscaping. Apart from the fact that each villa has its own view and garden area, the resort boasts not one but three beaches. Moreover, everything is accessible by bicycle, which are free to use at the fitness center.

If that was not enough for you, the resort also has four restaurants, all catering different cuisines and nightly entertainment, from dance groups to bands to night outdoor movie screenings. In-villa dining is available 24 hours a day with prompt delivery and exquisite service. With all the food options, you will not have to leave the resort even once to satisfy your tastebuds.

On the other side of the resort is the most beautiful golf course on the island. Designed by Ernie Els, the course is complimentary for guests including the buggies and the balls. Inside the resort is a cultural center, which doubles as a quiet and very well-stocked library – a great place to read up on the island’s rich history. If you don’t feel like reading, you can grab a DVD from there and watch a movie in your room.

Everything aside, the accommodation is to die for. All villas are secluded and come with an amazing view and a quaint pool. The contemporary Mauritian design of the rooms mixes the natural feel of the island with modern amenities. There are a range of living arrangements from one bedroom for honeymooners to six-bedroom for families – which are very welcome in this resort as it is very well-equipped to cater to children of all ages, from excursions to play areas to food.

The spa is indescribably cute. Little chalets sitting atop the water of the serene lagoon where treatments take place and schools fish pass right under the balconies. The service is impeccable, the client is duly taken care of in every detail – including an array of massage oils and a selection of playlist to cater to all.

Not many resorts can say this, but the concierge is probably one of the best we had ever encountered. Once you arrive at the desk you are handed an iPad with a plethora of excursions and services that are tailored for every kind of traveller. The personnel there are extremely helpful, doing everything from providing you with an icebox for long trips to ensuring you have wifi on your rides within the island. Make sure to stop by right after check-in to book all these exciting adventures, we went to the Seven Colored Earths, the Rhumerie de Chamarel and more.

All-in-all, if you are visiting Mauritius, there is only one choice to make. The Four Seasons family have done it again. They have interweaved the perfect island experience all in one. Although this is a place pf relaxation, it is not short of activities. This place is truly the idyllic setting for a trip to Mauritius. The service is unsurpassed, the location is magical, the food is top-notch and the overall experience is exemplary. If you plan a trip to Mauritius, this is the way to do it!

Special thanks to Debbie Williams for taking care of us like we were family and making sure our stay was pleasant and smooth. You’re amazing!
