Kuwait: Extinct species of shark found in fish market!

Blacktip--Shark-smoothtooth

Okay, so this is not news all over the country because, let’s face it, not much attention is given to environmental issues in the country. Sad to say it, but its true. Apparently, an extinct species of shark – the smoothtooth blackfin shark (one of the few species actually native to our coastline in the Gulf only) has been found dead in a fish market ready for sale for probably, and we are guesstimating here, 2KD a kilo. We mean, who buys sharks for food in Kuwait anyway?

If the environmental and habitat laws in this country were applied, put in place and actually implemented maybe we can save revive this species since obviously it still could be in our waters. Anyway, this news piece, which seems to be overlooked by many is circulating in some travel and science blogs.
